News / Call for Senior Cultural Editor, EMYA Brochures /

The European Museum Forum is seeking an experienced editor to support the preparation of its annual EMYA brochures.

This is a freelance or contract position, following a project-based schedule, with work concentrated in defined periods rather than year-round.

The editor will be reporting to the chair of the EMYA Jury.

CONTEXT

Each year, an average of 45 museums participate in the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA), with some variations from year to year. EMF publishes two brochures annually to present and promote the participating institutions:

1. EMYA Nominees’ Brochure

Language: English only

Format: Web and PDF versions (see previous editions here)

Length: The Nominees’ Brochure was 80 pages in 2025. About 50% of the brochure is dedicated to information that is largely fixed and does not require regular updates.

Produced by: One of our design agency partners

Publication timeline: February or March, approximately two months before the EMYA Annual Conference and Awards Ceremony

Purpose: To introduce the nominated museums to the public in advance of the event. The Nominees’ Brochure is not only an informational tool but also a publication that celebrates the rich diversity, innovation, and impact of museums across Europe.

2. EMYA Winners’ Brochure

Languages: English and French

Format: Web and PDF versions (see previous editions here)

Length: The Winners’ Brochure was 44 pages in 2025. About 20% of the brochure is dedicated to information that is largely fixed and does not require regular updates.

Content: Focused on the winners—approximately 13 museums, including all award categories and up to 7 Special Commendations

Publication timeline: Released on the last day of the EMYA Annual Conference (which usually takes place in May), immediately after the announcement of the winners

Purpose: To introduce the awarded museums (or individuals) to the public following the announcement of the winners at the award ceremonies. The Winners’ Brochure is a publication that celebrates the exemplary achievements of the winning museums, highlighting their impact on the European museum landscape and beyond.

Note: While the winners’ brochures are published online immediatly after the announcement of the winners, both the web and PDF versions must be finalised in advance. Confidential printed copies are also required, meaning all editorial work must be completed before the annual conference and awards ceremony.

EDITORIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The editor will be responsible for the revision and refinement of all written content, including:

The editor will receive all draft content in advance and will ensure clarity, consistency, and high editorial standards in line with EMF's tone and values. The role focuses exclusively on the textual content and does not involve design, layout, or photo selection.
